Ancestry Advisors FAQ
What is an Ancestry Advisor session?
Answer
A 30-minute consultation with one of our expert genealogists, who will offer guidance and strategies to advance your family history research.
What areas of Genealogy research can you help me with?
Answer:
Ancestry Advisor sessions are ideal for guidance on the Ancestry website, DNA testing (autosomal and mitochondrial), and research in English-speaking regions post-1850.
Will the advisor do the research for me?
Answer
No, your advisor will not conduct research on your behalf. Their role is to assist you in advancing your own research by offering strategies and tips to help you uncover, preserve, and share your family history.
I'm just beginning my research. Would an Ancestry Advisor session be useful?
Answer:
Absolutely. This is the perfect time to consult with one of our experts. They will assist you in getting your family tree set up, configuring your settings on the Ancestry website, and offer expert advice on accurately preserving and sharing your family history.
I've been researching my family for years. How can Ancestry Advisor help?
Answer
Having another set of eyes on a research problem is always beneficial. Our experts bring years of experience across various time periods, and offer strategies you might not have considered. If they don't provide any new ideas, you can be confident that you've explored all reasonable options.
I'm considering hiring a genealogist to complete the research for me, but I want to schedule a consultation to ensure my project is viable. Can I do that?
Answer:
Yes! You can schedule an advisor session to determine if our experts can assist you in reaching your goals and what's required to advance you. After your full research session, where one of our professional genealogists will perform the research for you, you'll receive a 10% discount.
How do I make the most effective use of my Ancestry Advisor session?
Answer
Make sure that you have completed the intake form and included all of the information relevant to your question. A specific and narrowly focused question will result in a better experience than more general questions.
I have already had an Ancestry Advisor appointment and would like to schedule a follow-up with the same Advisor, is this possible?
Answer:
Yes. Instructions for setting up another appointment with your Advisor will be included with the email you receive at the end of the session.
Will you expand the topics to include non-English speaking areas and time periods before 1850?
Answer
We are considering adding these options in the future. Please check back later to see if this option has been included, or reach out to one of our estimate specialists for more information. You can also complete our lead form here: http://www.progenealogists.com/lead
