Reverse Alphabetical Listing of Localities
The following pages contain the names of localities in Saxony, which were
alphabetized by the last letter of the locality name. Sometimes locality names
are hard to read. If you cannot quite make out the beginning letters of a
locality name, but you can make out the last part of the locality name, this
reverse alphabetical listing may enable you to determine what the correct
spelling of the locality name is.
Example: ----malen
You are doing research in the Canton of Zurich. Your document reveals the
locality name, but the first few letters are unreadable. Check the reverse sort
(alphabetized by the last letter) for locality names that end in n; then en; len;
etc. until you find one that ends with ----malen. See page 752. You will notice
that there is only one locality listed in the 1st column, 59th one down, that
fits the locality that includes ----malen, and that is Mutzmalen.
Once you have determined that Mutzmalen is the correct spelling of the place
your ancestors came from, you then should check the alphabetized listing of
localities in the Canton of Zurich. You can find Mutzmalen listed on page 719.
In our case, Mutzmalen belongs to the parish of Stäfa.
On page 742 you will find a list of all hamlets, villages and towns belonging to
the parish of Stäfa.
