The Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah holds millions of microfilmed County, Federal, State, City and Town records for the United States, as well as thousands of published lineage, surname and county histories. If the records are stored at the FHL, we can provide copies for you.

Following is a list of the types of records that are generally available:
Record Types
- Vital Records: Births, Marriages, Deaths
- Federal Censuses: 1790-1880, 1900-1920 (1870 and 1910 are only partially indexed, 1890 is available only for a few states). See a list of available censuses.
- State Censuses: Various Years, Various States
- Probate Records: Wills, Estates, Administrations
- Military: Colonial, Revolutionary (Service and Pension), War of 1812 (Service), WWI Draft
- Land Deeds
- Tax Records
- Court Records: Guardianship, Divorce, Bastardy

- City Directories (Most large cities' directories are available to 1935, some later.)

How to Order a Record
Step 1: Pre-Order Form
Fill out our estimate form online and include as many of the following details as possible:
- Record type to be obtained,
- Do you want the original record or just an abstract?,
- Name of individual to be found,
- Birth date for said individual or his/her approximate age during the event year,
- Any other identifying information (spouse, children, occupation, etc.)
- Name of the City, Town, County, or State,
- FHL Call number (optional),
- Your name, mailing address and e-mail address
We will contact you, acknowledge receipt of your request, and let you know if the records are available and provide an estimate of the cost to obtain the record(s).
Step 2: Order the Record
After receiving the estimate, you will be requested to pre-pay for the record online via secure server, or by check or money order in the mail. The document will be sent to you within five business days after the receipt of your payment.
Step 3: You Will Receive
- A fully labeled copy of all documents,
- A research calendar detailing the record sources examined,
- An invoice and receipt.
