Sources for the Palatine Project

A number of people have asked about the sources for information on the passenger lists. There are many sources that are being drawn on for these pages. Published sources used on this site are listed on two separate websites:

  1. Primary Sources being extracted. Some of the passenger lists include a column with the source citation abbreviation listed. Primary sources used with these lists and progress of various extractions from these sources are listed on a source list under Pennsylvania. These include the source abbreviations and fuller description of these sources.

  2. Complete list of sources. This includes all published sources that are being consulted for the project. This list will certainly grow as time allows more sources to be included in the project.

In addition, often family sources prove to be valuable and information is submitted by individuals who have done more extensive research on these families. In those cases their email address or some other reference is given so people can coordinate research with them.

If you are aware of additional sources or better information on any of the passengers on these lists please submit that information. Other sources used in compiling the New York, Nova Scotia, New England, and Virginia lists are listed on their individual home pages. The North and South Carolina and additional Virginia sites will probably appear much the same as the Pennsylvania passenger lists with a separate column for sources.

Please do look up the original sources when there are references because they generally give more information than is used in this compilation. For example if they were married more than once or had children who died prior to their emigration, this information was not included in these passenger lists but might be valuable for your genealogical records. They also often include complete birth and marriage dates for all members of the immediate family. If you'd like a photocopy of the original source, please ask for a free estimate.
