Natalie Cottrill

Natalie D. Cottrill, MA (Music), a professional genealogist in Salt Lake City, Utah, is a native of Columbus, Ohio. She has been fully engaged in this career since 1989. Ms. Cottrill has been a member of the Association of Professional genealogists since 1994, and is always striving to contribute to the profession.

Natalie is the General Manager of ProGenealogists, a division of Ancestry.com. She was President and CEO of ProGenealogists from the time of its inception in 1998 to August 2010, when it transitioned to become the professional research division of Ancestry.com. Natalie continues to work with her colleagues to build tools to promote research and customer service excellence within this organization.

Ms. Cottrill served as the Course Coordinator and Lecturer for the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy's course entitled "Becoming a Successful Professional," which was well-received. Her lectures within the longer list of classes included, "The Right Stuff - Personality Traits of an Entrepreneur," "Profit - What's That? Money Basics for Business," "Operational and Support Tasks: More than Meets the Eye," and "Billable Time - What is It? How Can I Maximize It?"

In 1997, Natalie published a book of her genealogy research on the Woodruff and McManus ancestries entitled The Ancestors and Descendants of Willis Calvin and Clara (Woodruff) McManus. She is currently documenting the Descendants of Henry Tewksbury and Martha Copp ofAmesbury, Massachusetts. Natalie attended Ohio University (Athens, Ohio), Ohio State (Columbus, Ohio), and graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts (Music) degree, summa cum laude, from Baldwin-Wallace College in 1985. In 1988 Ms. Cottrill obtained an Artists Diploma in Music Performance from the St. Louis Conservatory (St. Louis, Missouri). Since 1981, she has also completed significant coursework in medicine, business, mathematics, philosophy and computer science. In 1988 Natalie married her long-time beau, David. Together, they have two talented children, Andrew Cottrill, a musician and professional actor, and William Cottrill, a musician.

Natalie is a member of Mensa, International and is the recipient of the 2006-2007 America's Who's Who Registry of Outstanding Professionals. Inclusion is limited to the individuals who have demonstrated leadership and achievement in their profession.
