Judith W. Hansen, BS (Family History), MLS, AG®

Judy Hansen has been actively involved in a variety of family history activities for more than 30 years as a researcher, writer, editor, teacher and volunteer administrator.

As a professional genealogist, Judy has been solving complex problems in the U.S. Southern States for hundreds of clients over the years. After completing a Bachelor’s degree emphasizing genealogy, she finished a Master's degree in Library Science, and became Accredited in both Mid-South and Gulf South U.S. research in 1993.

She has authored several articles in the Genealogical Journal and the North Carolina Genealogical Society Journal among others, and has written several Utah vital records monographs. She is the editor and publisher of Fonville Family Findings and served five years as the editor of the well-respected Genealogical Journal. Judy has attended most of the sessions of the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy since its founding in 1996, and has been an integral part of the Institute’s staff the past four years, serving most recently as the Problem Solving course coordinator. She is also a graduate of Samford University's Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (Advanced Methods), and has attended many national genealogical conferences.

In her volunteer work, she has extracted records for the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System, spent six years on the board of the Utah Genealogical Association, four of them as vice president, and more than a decade as a consultant and instructor at the Utah Valley Regional Family History Center. Judy also served the Association of Professional Genealogists on the national level and was president of the Salt Lake City chapter. She also received the Silver Beaver Award for her service to the Boy Scouts of America.

Judy Hansen is a life member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the National Genealogical Society, Utah Genealogical Association, North Carolina Genealogical Society, New England Historic and Genealogical Society, and New York Genealogical and Biographical Society.
