Mission Statement
It is the objective of ProGenealogists's Hungarian site to provide everyone of Hungarian descent an understanding of, and access to, the history and record sources of pre-1920 Hungary, that they may identify more of their past and share in the lives and experiences of their forefathers through the following methods:
1) Education of the localities, jurisdictions and boundary changes that affect record availability and accessibility for the former Kingdom of Hungary, including present-day Slovakia, portions of the Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria.
2) A service through which record availability can be determined for known localities in the former Kingdom of Hungary, based on ecclesiastical association and residence. This is to encourage the research of ancestry in a country that many descendants suppose cannot be researched. The fact is, most areas and religious denominations of Hungary have been preserved and are available for research.
3) Professional and scholarly research projects and record search services. The staff members at ProGenealogists have been providing Hungarian research presentations to descendants of Hungarian families for over ten years. We employ strategies and knowledge that cannot be acquired through any other means than good, old-fashioned study of the areas involved and an understanding of the people, laws and circumstances that originally created the record sources.
4) The sharing of information and ideas through a newsletter and the posting of photographs, methodology tips and links to other sites and sources that help achieve the objectives outlined here. As well, the establishment and building of databases that serve all descendants of an area or organization in general.
