March 18th, 2004: Hungarian Funeral Cards
For those of you aware of the mourning cards/funeral notices for the Kingdom of Hungary, there is good news. While recently researching in Hungary, I learned that the collection, housed at the National Szecheny Library on Castle Hill in Budapest, is now in the process of being microfilmed. Nearly 800,000 pieces dating through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries will soon be available without on-site research in person. This will also insure the preservation of this priceless piece of Hungarian heritage. We will let you know more as soon as there are specifics about its completion. The bad news is that the collection is off-limits until the filming is completed.
