Hungarian Libraries
Budapest City Archives - Some of the earliest documents here date
about 1300. Unfortunately, during World War II one quarter of the whole
archive was burnt. The good news was that most of the collection had been
taken to the crypt of St. Steven's Cathedral. Most of this material
remained for decades in the damp crypt and became infected with fungus.
The last documents were brought out of the cathedral only in 1991. This
website tells about the history of the archives and
explains its holdings.
