Saxony Anhalt

Saxony Anhalt (Sachsen-Anhalt) is one of the sixteen (16) states that make up the Federal Republic of Germany. Its capital is Magdeburg. This state is fairly centrally located in Germany. It is one of the top ten states for area and population. Most of the state is made up of farmland. The Harz mountains lie in the southwest part of the state.

In addition to 21 counties (landkreise), Saxony-Anhalt has 3 independent cities within its borders - Dessau,
