The Northwest Territory, founded 1787, was the parent jurisdiction for that land that would eventually become Illinois. In 1800, the land that would become Illinois was found in the Indiana Territory. Illinois achieved statehood in 1818. Marriage records were the first vital records kept in Illinois, and these were generally kept upon inception of the county. Birth and death records began in 1877, but were kept only inconsistently until 1916.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I really appreciate the fact that you were able to get a marriage record for my aunt and uncle, ... I wasn't sure if you would be able to find them, but you did. Thank you - J. Maxwell
