Illinois Genealogy Databases
The Northwest Territory, founded 1787, was the parent jurisdiction for that land that would eventually become Illinois. In 1800, the land that would become Illinois was found in the Indiana Territory. Illinois achieved statehood in 1818. Marriage records were the first vital records kept in Illinois, and these were generally kept upon inception of the county. Birth and death records began in 1877, but were kept only inconsistently until 1916.
