We put together research projects for you that are
thorough, scholarly and produced by some of the finest genealogists
in the world.
When your research project is
complete, all of this is included in your package:
A research calendar detailing each source studied,
Copies of original records, abstracts or transcripts,
A summary of the results of the research session,
Suggestions for future research,
An invoice for expenses (photocopies,
postage, phone charges, etc.)
Family group sheets and pedigree charts, as updated.
For more details on each of the above and what they
entail, see our project tour page. We generally
present reports in a simple 2 pocket folder. If you'd like a fancier
presentation for gift giving purposes, just let us know and we'll send
additional information on various types of presentations and their
associated costs.
ProGenealogists's ancestry research is generally conducted in 10-30 hour
blocks of time, with a 10 hour project minimum. This gives us the time
that is necessary to sufficiently review any of your previous
research, evaluate your research goals, develop a research
methodology for new family research, conduct
research, write a report for you, and assemble documentation.
In general, we have found that 10
hour increments of time (10, 20, 30, 40, etc.) are the most efficient
in helping us make significant research progress for you, mostly
because we're used to pacing our research output in 10 hour sessions. If
you're wondering how much time it might take for your research project,
we've found that intensive research ordered in blocks of 20 hours or more
is the best bet for making progress on really
difficult lineages. When the research has been successful in
extending your pedigree, family group sheets and pedigree charts
reflecting the new information are produced. Reports are delivered by
priority mail and are usually finished
in 6-12 weeks.
If you have any questions at all, please contact us
anytime. We're happy to speak with you.

A Comment About Rates:
Typical professional rates for genealogists range from $40.00 per hour
to over $200.00 per hour. Experienced genealogists and those with a
particular specialty typically have higher fees than those who are less
experienced or non-specialized. To become more familiar with this topic,

Additional Expenses - Your
deposit will be held in escrow, untouched, until completion of the
research project. Upon completion, all hourly research costs will be
deducted from the deposit. Photocopy costs, postage and handling, long
distance phone calls, certificate fees and correspondence costs are billed
to you at the conclusion of each research session. Photocopies are $.30
(thirty cents) each, domestic phone calls are billed at $.15 (fifteen)
cents per minute, overseas phone calls are billed at $.25 (twenty-five)
cents per minute, and postage and handling fees are $6.00 for packages
up to 2 lbs.; Express or Next Day and over 2 lbs. postage is the
equivalent of the USPS rate plus
$2.00 shipping and handling (see chart above). Other billed expenses will include on location sub-contracted
research services and county, state or country fees for vital records
certificates. You will be contacted for authorization if these costs might
exceed $75.00. Expense fees usually average about $20-30 per 10-hour
project. If and when accounts are over 30 days past due, the account
balance will be billed interest and finance charges in the amount of 1 and
½ percent per month until the balance is paid in full. Back

Date of Completion
- Research projects are handled in the order that the deposit is received.
Projects are often completed in 6-12 weeks from receipt of deposit.
However, there are times that research projects may extend past this time
frame pending receipt of outside correspondence or availability of
resources. In case of a delay extending past the 12-week period, you will
be notified. Back to top.
