Copenhagen School Census Inventory, 1735-1739

Records of the school children in the district were found in three packets of the Copehangen County Archive:

    • Breve fra Diverse Embedsmænd og partikuære Personer 1735-1736

    • Breve fra Diverse Embedsmænd og partikuære Personer 1737-1738

    • Breve fra Diverse Embedsmænd og partikuære Personer 1739

The volume of letters from officials for 1739-1742 did not include any lists like the others listed here. Below is an inventory of most of these lists and links to transcriptions of the original school lists found in each of the above three bundles.

1. Breve fra Diverse Embedsmænd og partikuære Personer 1735-1736(Letters from Diverse Officials and Particular Persons 1735-1736), København Amt. Includes various documents and letters, including school census for the following schools:

  • Ballerup, 5 Jul 1735
  • Herstedvester, 5 Jul 1735
  • Herstedøster, 5 Jul 1735
  • Ledøje, 5 Jul 1735
  • Måløv, 5 Jul 1735
  • Valby, 4 Jul 1735
  • Hvidøre, 23 Jun 1735
  • Gentofte, 23 Jun 1735
  • (Kongens) Lyngby, 23 Jun 1735

I have a note that it included the following towns as well but don't see them in the copies I made. Perhaps they were part of Brønshøj School District and somehow they were not copied.

  • Ullerslev (? Allerslev, Islev)
  • Vanløse By
  • Husum By

I also included a letter from    4 Apr 1735 from this packet.

2. Breve fra Diverse Embedsmænd og partikuære Personer 1737-1738(Letters from Diverse Officials and Particular Persons 1737-1738), København Amt. Various documents, including lists of school children for the following schools:

  • Bagsværd (Gladsakse) Oct 1738
  • Bronshøj, 31 Dec 1738
  • Hvidøre, 18 Sep 1738
  • Lilleværløse, 1 Sep 1738, 13 Oct 1738, 30 Dec 1738
  • Valby, 29 Dec 1738

3. Breve fra Diverse Embedsmænd og partikuære Personer 1739 (Letters from Diverse Officials and Particular Persons 1739), København Amt. For most parishes, includes four lists giving attendance of children for the quarters Sep-Dec 1738, Jan-Mar 1739, Apr-Jul 1739, and the final list summarizing attendance for Sep 1738-Sep 1739. A few of the lists also include the level of achievement for each student or the students who made up each class. This census includes children and young people in royal schools who had not yet been confirmed (most under 15 years old), along with attendance for the following school districts:

The following parishes seem to be incomplete or I part of the lists were missed in my copies:

  • Høje Tåstrup (My notes include a list from this parish, but it wasn't included in the copies the archive sent me. Perhaps they skipped copying the pages from this parish.)
