Charles E. Hughes, MA (History)
Charles “Chip” Hughes, M.A. is a full time professional genealogist in Salt
Lake City, Utah. Chip is a native of New Jersey who has been living in Utah for
the past 25 years. After serving in the United States Navy for 9 years, Chip
graduated from Brigham Young University with a both a B.A. and M.A. in American
History. He attended Arizona State University completing all his coursework and
exams for his Ph.D. in American History. Chip feels that genealogy needs to be
closely tied to an examination of social history in order to gain the historical
insights that make people and families come alive for his clients.
He is currently researching families in New England, ranging from the colonial
period up through the nineteenth century and the Eastern States following
immigration patterns into the Midwestern states. Following the immigration
themes, Chip is also an expert and British family history focusing on US
immigration from Great Britain. He is has been involved with British research
for many years and is familiar with all aspects of British Genealogical
research.
Chip’s interest in immigration and pioneer history has led him to focus on LDS
research bringing families across the ocean and following these family groups to
the west, not only to Utah but also to California and Oregon during the 1840s –
1880s. His knowledge of history allows for a full understanding of both the push
and pull factors that led pioneers west. Chip has studied and understands the
immigration patterns followed by the many thousand of pioneers heading west. His
expertise in LDS research allows him to provide his clients with a full
genealogy/family history package including LDS ordinance and Temple work
support.
Chip is a member of numerous genealogy organizations including the
Association
of Professional Genealogists (APG),
National Genealogical Society (NGS),
New
England Historic and Genealogical Society (NEHGS),
Utah Genealogy Association (UGA),
as well as many other state and local historical societies.
