The 1810 U.S. Federal Census

This was the third Federal census taken in the United States.  States included in this census were: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia.  Some portions of these states have missing parts of the census (usually entire counties).

The 1810 census taker tallied the following:

  1. Name of head of household
  2. Address (usually only township and county, sometimes just county)
  3. Number of free white males:
    • newborn and under 10
    • 10 and under 16
    • 16 and under 26
    • 26 and under 45
    • 45 and over
  4. Number of free white females, including head of family
    • newborn and under 10
    • 10 and under 16
    • 16 and under 26
    • 26 and under 45
    • 45 and over
  5. Number of all other free persons, except Indians not taxed
  6. Number of Slaves
