Census Records
Census records are records that take a population survey of a specific region. Many locales throughout the past few hundred years have kept track of their population using census records or tax records. Sometimes just numerical statistics were kept (how many people) but other times more detailed information was kept (names, dates and places of birth, parent's names, etc.)
The U.S. has large sets of Federal and State census records with some starting as early as the 1770s, but most from 1790-present. Canada has sets of census records from 1821-present and England and overseas countries also have sets of census records.
