15. Rudolph BARNHOUSE

RELATIONSHIP: Anne SMOOT, married Rodolph BARNHOUSE (from her brother Thomas' will); children were Frances BARNHOUSE, Elizabeth BARNHOUSE. Anne SMOOT was daughter of John SMOOT, born 1707 Westmoreland Co., VA and died 1789. John was executor of his step-father John AUSTIN's 1733 will and administrator of his mother's will in 1747 in St. Mary's County. He was married three times. Children by his third marriage were William, b. 1750 St. Mary's Co., Thomas SMOOT, d. St. Mary's Co. 1796, Hezekiah SMOOT, b. 1760 St. Mary's County, Alexander SMOOT, b. 1 Aug 1769 St. Mary's Co, d. 1826 Rowan Co, NC, Eleanor SMOOT, md. PRICE, Anne SMOOT married Rodolph BARNHOUSE, Elizabeth SMOOT, d. 1791. Information from Will: "In the name of God Amen, I Rodolph BARNHOUSE bein sick and weak but of perfect memory think God for it I do make this my last will and Testament in man my will is that Hezekiah SMOOT shall be my hol Executor of my Estate. Item. I give my . . . to my Eldest Daughter Frances . . . Item. I give unto my Daughter Elizabeth . . . and the money to be divided between my two Daughters that is to say, Frances & Elizabeth also my will is that my two Children shall have one year schooling at the expece of my Execuotr and my will is that Hezekiah SMOOT shall have the use of all the negroes until my two Daughters come to the years of sixteen . . . as witness my hand and seal this 16th day of April 1801." Signed: Roldolph (X) BARNHOUSE. Witness: James WHITE, Philip HALL. "Item. I will is that my Brother George BARNHOUSE should have my Gunn and hat and pare of whit dimmity Britches and my sister SMOOT to have my linen wheel and wollin wheel." "On the back of the aforegoing was the following. to wit. Saint Mary's County to wit: the 19th day of May 1801. Then came Hezekiah SMOOT and made oath . . . that the within instrument of writing is the true and whole Last Will and Testament of Rodolph BARNHOUSE late of Saint Mary's County deceased . . ." 19th May 1801. "Then came Philip HALL one of the two Subscribing witnesses to the within last Will and Testament of Rodolph BARNHOUSe late of Saint Mary's County deceased and made oath . . . that he did see the Testator therein named sign and seal this will and that he heard him publish pronounce and declare the same to be his last Will and Testament . . . Certified by Jeremiah JORDAN, Regtr. for Saint Mary's County."
