Ephron Park STEWART

Kim Brady descendant of Jason Leroy Stewart  has a copy of a letter  signed by Dr. Ephron P. Stewart.

Dr. Ephron P. Stewart put up bond money for George Allen (who was or  became his son-in-law).  Dr. Stewart ended up losing everything.  Dr.  Stewart moved to Bakersville, Coshocton Co., OH.  He was one of the  doctors there, postmaster and also ran a hotel.  Clara Mizer Stewart ran  the hotel for him.

Per his great-granddaughter--when he died he didn't want anyone to know  where he was buried.  He was afraid he would have some terrible disease  of the time and they would dig him up and take him back to Carroll Co. to be buried with the rest of the family.  He was afraid, if indeed he did  die of a communicable disease, that it would be spread to the good folks  back in Carroll Co. and he didn't want that to happen.  She also said  that she was told that he was pitching papers into his stove.  When asked what he was doing, he told the person that it was $20,000.  he burned  $20,000 worth of bills that were due him from his various patients that  he knew he would never collect.
