Descendants of John and Mary 'Polly' Jane (Ice) BARNHOUSE
of Hampshire and
Monongalia Counties, Virginia
Table of Contents
Henry and Anna (BAKER) BARNHOUSE are first found in records in
the 1795 Hampshire County, Virginia tax records. Henry was enumerated
for many years in Hampshire County adjacent to John BARNHOUSE (md. Rebecca
BAKER). Both men married daughters of John BAKER, Sr. of Hampshire
County, Virginia. Land records and court records document the children of John
BAKER, Sr. and their relationship to the BARNHOUSEs. Sometime between 1809 and
1815, Henry moved to Monongalia County, Virginia (in a portion now
encompassing Marion County, Virginia). The tax records suggest that
Henry BARNHOUSE paid taxes on John BARNHOUSE in the year 1803. It is likely
that John and Henry BARNHOUSE were brothers and they have been included here
as such.
Jacob BARNHOUSE was closely
associated with John and Rebecca (BAKER) BARNHOUSE in subsequent tax and
census records and Jacob may also be related to John and Henry BARNHOUSE.
