BIOGRAPHY: Willis C. Barnhouse email. 8/31/1999 10:06:55 PM Mountain Daylight Time Kekoa37@aol.com. Information from Biography: On the 1880 census of Colorado, A.L. Barnhouse was listed. That is the same as Adelbert Loomis Barnhouse buried in the Rainier, WA cemetery. He homesteaded a large plot in Colorado, and married Caltha Kittie Howard on the nearby homestead. These were my grandparents. They sold out and moved to Rainier, Oregon, where my father, William Charles Preston Barnhouse was born "in a tent outside Rainier Oregon, May 24, 1898"

OBITUARY: Sent by Howard Bergh. Rose I. Barnhouse, 89, a resident of Rainier, Wash. died on Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at home. She was born December 3, 1911 to Horace and Lola (McCutcheon) Bonney in Kent, Wash. She went to Rainier schools and married Leon A. Barnhouse on January 17, 1929 in Olympia, Wash. She was known to many friends as "Rosie", to her 7 children and their spouses as "Mom" and "Grandma Rose" to 39 grandchildren and 58 great and great-great grandchildren and ÒAunt Rosie" to many nieces and nephews. She is survived by 6 of her 7 children, Leonard A. and Darlene Barnhouse of Morton, Wash., Sally and Gordon Strand of Rainier, John H. Barnhouse of Chehalis, Wash., Loretta McClelland of Tallahassee, Fla., Thomas E. and Virginia Barnhouse of Rainier, Wash., and Victor L. and Donna Barnhouse of Centralia, Wash., 2 sisters, Sally McGovern of Pismo Beach, Calif. and Lola Knutsen of Haines, Ala., and brother Clyde Snodgrass of Key West, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon A. Barnhouse and by her son, William H. Barnhouse. At her request there will be a gathering of family and friends on Saturday, September 22, 2001, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 2801 Mt. Vista Rd., Centralia, Wash., beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice/Providence Sound Home Care, 3706 Griffin Ln SE, Olympia, WA 98501. Arrangements are by Woodlawn Funeral Home, Lacey.

Information from 1870 Census: Adelbert BARNHOUSE is living with Thomas E. BARNHOUSE, who is listed as head of household. Adelbert is male, white, age 5 and born in Illinois.
CENSUS: 1880 Hinsdale County Colorado; Lake City and Vicinity; ED 58; Sheet 8d; Dwelling 94; Family 94; conducted on June 8, 1880; T. E. Barnhouse household. Information from 1880 Census: A. L. BARNHOUSE is the son of T. E. BARNHOUSE, who is listed as head of household. A. L. is male, white, age 15 and born in Illinois. Both of his parents were born in West Virginia.

It should be noted that Adelbert Leon Barnhouse and Leon A. Barnhouse were the same person, my uncle (See Rainier Cemetery). Also, in the same small cemetery are buried 2 Thomas Evans Barnhouses (I helped my father clear their plots off for Memorial Day in late 60's). Willis C. "Barney" Barnhouse.
A. L. was in the 1900 Benton Co. OR census; 1910 Pierce Co. WA, living in Buckley Town; 1920 Thurston Co., Rainier Precinct, WA.
