   "The BARNHOUSE Family.
Little is known about the BARNHOUSE family, but several important links with Dunkers justify the inclusion of this family.
John BARNHOUSE wrote his will on March 23, 1848, and it was probated two years later.  He named his wife Sarah (second wife?) and seven children: Fielding, William, Andrew, John, Matthew, Marium [Miriam], Tasker, and Elizabeth GREEN.  Fielding received land on New Creek, the only land mentioned in the will.  The executor of the will was Dunker Samuel ARNOLD of New Creek, and one of the witnesses was Joseph FRAZIER who was a trustee of the Pine Church (Sage and Jones, 108).
Samuel ARNOLD, of New Creek, born Dec. 20, 1802, was a son of Zachariah ARNOLD of Beaver Run.  Samuel's wife of Nancy PARKER of a Mill Creek family. This Samuel ARNOLD was a close and trusted friend of Elder John KLINE.  When a person was needed to hold funds sent from the Brotherhood to rebuild the Greenland Church destroyed in the Civil WAr, John KLINE designated Samuel ARNOLD of New Creek.
Elder Jasper BARNTHOUSE, beloved minister of Georges Creek and Sandy Creek congregations was the son of William BARNTHOUSE, but possible connections with William BARNHOUSE above has not been researched.
Later in time, Warner Washington LEATHERMAN, born Oct. 28, 1859 and son of Dunker minister George Washington LEATHERMAN, married Annie May BARNHOUSE, daughter of Philip BARNHOUSE.  Their marriage was performed by Dunker minister Benjamin W. SMITH.  The father of Warner Washington LEATHERMAN built the LEATHERMAN Dunker Church in New Creek Valley around 1890.
Two marriages of BARNHOUSE women with TASKER men occurred:  the one mentioned above and that of Isaac TASKER to Miriam BARNHOUSE, Oct. 15, 1839 or 1840.
A Benjamin TASKER was a large land holder in Frederick Co., MD., owning 7000 acres including the land on which the city of Frederick now stands.  His holdings there were called "Taskers Chance."  He became a high official in the Government of Maryland.  A Henry DASKER and wife were listed by Morgan EDWARDS as members of Coventry Church in 1770.  Connections have not been traced."

COURT:  File 103, Case #5, & File 109, Case #1, Superior Court of Chancery at Clarksburg, WV.
Information from Court Record:  The  Ice vs Ice lawsuit, filed April 28, 1826, alluded to the notion that Henry was related by marriage to both William & Thomas Baker.  It further stated that Henry had a nephew by marriage, Eli Conaway, and another nephew, John  Baker.  James Jones was  brother-in-law to Henry Barnhouse; they married two sisters. Eli Conaway (1797-1851) was married to Mary Baker (1796-1840) d/o William & Priscilla Baker.  John Baker's mother bought land from William Ice.  John Baker was probably the s/o William & Priscilla  as we found a deed indicating that Priscilla & heirs of William Baker had bought 100 acres from William & Elizabeth Ice  os book 5, pg 196 Marion Co. WV.  James Jones was married to Sarah.  In all likelihood the surname of the two sisters, Sarah and Anna, is Baker.  In total, all these facts lead us to believe Anna's surname is Baker.   The book Ice vs Ice  by Bess L. Morgan, Copyright 1990 can be found in the Wetzel Co. WV Library.

COURT:  Bess L. Morgan, ed., "Thomas ICE & Others VS James ICE & Others Transcript of Original Lawsuit filed 28 April 1826 In Superior Court of Chancery at Clarksburg, (West) Virginia File 103, Case #5 & File 109, Case #1," (Quakertown, PA: Bess L. Morgan, 1990)

From Miscellaneous Notes by Rick Toothman:
"Barnhouse was from the New Creek area of Hampshire (now Mineral) Co and was connected by marriage to Thomas Baker (m. Ruth Jones) and William Baker (m. Priscilla), and it appears that the three families came together from New Creek to Monongalia not long before 1810."

Background:  William Ice married 3 times and fathered 15 children.  His 3rd wife, Elizabeth, had William to deed 256 acres to his 3 youngest sons,(her children).  The children of the first two marriages sued Elizabeth and her children for their share.  Elizabeth’s eldest son. James, sold his share to Henry Barnhouse.  When Henry got word of possible trouble with his deed he also had William Ice to make him a deed.  Henry Branhouse had paid $340 with $160 still owed to James Ice when William Ice died and suit was filed.
There were reams of depositions taken in Monongalia and Harrison Counties of WV and some in Ohio.  Part of this suit is filed in Colson Hall, WV University at Morgantown, WV which led some researchers to believe Henry Barnhouse was an heir of William Ice.  The complete case filled in Clarksburg, WV proves this not to be true.
Elizabeth and her Children lost and the land was divided between her and the 15 children. I don’t know if Henry Barnhouse received his $340 or not.
