205. Eva Eudora BARNHOUSE

NOTE: From Broderbund World Family Tree CD#2. Eva was boarding with the Luther Horrum family at the turn of the century. She fell in love with and married Grandson Will Horrum on Jan 1, 1900. My mother, Edna Churchill, said Eva was very good to her Grandson, Dick, but Dick has no memory of her. She died in 1928 - three years after Dick was born. My mother also said Eva wasn't getting along with her husband Will, but her illness kept them togeather. Her sister, Mary Barnhouse, said she took good care of her younger sisters and brother after their mother died in 1892.

William Henry HORRUM

NOTE: From Broderbund World Family Tree CD#2. Called "Will Horrum" by everyone. He played the tuba in the Adams Band. The band players practiced on night and then played in the band box the next night. Either Thursday or Saturday night. Most businesses were open on band night - all the farmers were in town that night. Adams didn't have a theater so the towns people and the farmers and their families always looked forward to band night in the summertime. My mother, Edna Churchill Horrum, told me Will and Eva Barnhouse Horrum had some domestic problems and even thought of separating but when Eva developed uterine cancer, all these thoughts were dropped. I remember when my grandfather Will bought a device that glued soles to shoes and then nails were put on the sides. There was a machine ran by a motor that shined and smoothed the edges of the new soles. When I am in a shoe repair shop, the odor of leather, dye and polish always reminds me of my grandfather.

260. Ralph Irwin HORRUM

NOTE: From Broderbund World Family Tree CD#2. Ralph "Jell" Horrum was a very sociable man. He had many friends and was well thought of in his hometown, Adams, NE. He suffered from terminal Bright's Disease in the last 10 years of so of his life. Since he wouldn't apply or his wasn't elgible for assisance from the county or state, he had to to make a living the best he could. This included breaking the law. He was a very loving father to me. He picked me up at my Grandma Jennie's house and took me to where he was living at the time. A the end of his life, he was living in a trailer home next door to Mrs Catherine Reed. The Reeds were known to my Dad all his life. One of Catherine's sons wa Bill Reed who was my Dad's best friend. Bill and Catherine looked after my Dad when he was in the last months of his life though he lived alone in his trailer I can remember Bill telling me how concerned he was about my Dad's health. Thi conversation occured while we were standing in my Dad's trailer. Bill drove my Dad to the Baptist Hospital in Beatrice when my Dad got very ill.
