NOTE: From Broderbund World Family Tree CD#2. Jake Barnhouse married Alvina Cole Berg Wininger, a divorcee with two sons, in March 1872. Jake had traveled to Nebraska on the advise of his older brother, Wm W.Barnhouse. He asked for and received money from his brothers back in Ohio to buy a farm near Adams, NE. He also worked for W.W.Barnhouse in his various enterprises. He lost his leg i a threshing accident and decided to go back to Ohio and run a retail store. Here the first child, Eva, was born. His mother-in-law, Rebecca Ennis Stumer, came to Dayton, Oh to be present when Alvina gave birth. He decided to return to Nebraska - I would guess by train. He was farming near Courtland when Grace was born and by Comstock when Mary and Irwin was born. Alvina, Frank Ber and Joseph Wininger all died and are buried in Comstock. He returned to Adams and lived there for some time and then decided to go to Oklahoma to farm which he did. Mary traveled to Oklahoma in 1900 to make a claim on government land. Jake already had used his once in a lifetime claim rights back in Nebraska. Here Irwin was drowned in 1903. Mary taught school in Oklahoma City and Grace married a man named Brinson. Jake made a final trip back to Caldwell, Ohio before he died in 1923.
