Cain pioneer spirit and after five years of married life in Noble County her
husband went to Nemaha County ,Kansas where he prepared a new home for his
family. They lived there for nine years before moving to Dawson County Nebrask
where they lived on a farm near Overton. The family records show a hearty
family able to stand the blizzards and sand storms of early Kansas and
Nebraska days.

family started adult life as a teacher. He began at 15, holding a life time
teacher's certificate. He was in order an ordained Methodist minister, lawer,
doctor of medicine and member of the Ohio General Assembly. He worked on the
editorial staff of a Hutchinson, Kansas newspaper at the side of Uncle Morris:
later he owned newspapers in Checotah Okla., in Elwood City and New Castle,
Pa. He was the fifth member of the family to leave Noble County for the new
life and adventures of the Middle West. He practiced medicine at Caldwell for
thirty years.

moving to Endora and later to Hutchinson, Kansas where he spent the greater
portion of his life. After he retired the family moved to Colorado Springs and
later to Detroit where he died. He is buried in Colorado Springs with his
daughter Ann and her husband Carl Lemon.

life like all other members of his family, as a school teacher, owner of a
smal country store, writer of "C V Cain Spelling Book", realtor and student of
politics. He never held public office but was first president of the Townsend
Old Age Plan group in Muskingum County, Ohio. At that time his political mind
told him that he would see the very idea we now know as the Social Security
Act enacted into a national law. He was kindly, friendly, generous to a fault
and all who knew him respected and liked him. He was named for Col. Clem
Valandingham of the Confederate Army.
