OBITUARY2:  Unknown Vinton County Newspaper; February 21, 1959.
Information from Obituary 2:
"As life runs on, the road grows strange, with faces new, and at the end, the milestones into headstones change, neath every one - a friend.
Luzana Merle, daughter of Nathaniel and Elizabeth BARNHOUSE BOWEN, was born near Vales Mills, Sept. 8, 1874, and departed this life at Newark City Hospital, Feb. 21, 1959 at the age of 84 years, 5 mos., 17 da.
She was one of a family of nine children and the last to survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Stephen and John BOWEN, six sisters:  Diana who died in infancy, Mrs. Charlotte DIXON, Mrs. Amanda VAUGHN, Mrs. Melvina CALHOUN, Mrs. Sarepta COWEN and Mrs. Louisa HUSTON.
On Dec. 24, 1892, she was united in marriage to James Milton COTTRILL and to their union nine children were born. Of these Leslie Edward and Mrs. Elizabeth APPLEMAN preceded her to the spirit world. This worthy couple established their home in Vinton Twp. where they lived over 50 years. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in December and the husband and father was called to his reward the following May 8, 1943. Their home was open to all who came; everyone was made welcome and the needy never went away empty handed. After her husband's death she kept her own home for several years until she became too infirm to care for herself. For the past four years she lived at Croton with her son and family.
She is survived by one son, Harry R. of Croton; six daughters:  Mrs. Caroline MOUNT, Mrs. Irene HUMPHRIES, both of Logan; Mrs. Norma HENNING of Ontario, Calif.; Mrs. Imogene CHRIST, Mrs. Frances BARNES and Mrs. Dorothy HALL, all of Columbus, 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
She was converted and united with the Boring Chapel U.B. Church in 1904, and remained firm in that faith united the end. She attended church and Sunday School regularly as long as her health would permit. She was happiest when she could return to her home community and worship in the little church where she had found the Savior and whose welfare was always foremost in her heart.
She had been in failing health for several years and on Jan. 18th she was stricken with the illness that resulted in her death. We wouldn't call her back for she often spoke of her heavenly home and we know she was ready when the master called. Two years ago she sent the following poem to the writer to be included in her obituary. We feel they are her true sentiments."

Ministers and layman alike were made welcome and no needy person ever went away empty handed. He was a good citizen and his place in the community will be hard to fill. When our loved ones journey from us, To that country far away And we linger in the valley Where the gloomy shadows stay, When the rod has left us helpless By the binding blow that fell, Hear we through the mists the message “ In the homeland, all is well”. All is well, oh soul, believe it, Sunshine follows after rain, IN a far and distant country You shall find your own again. From beyond the deeps the message Faint but clear as evening bell; “Trust in God and keep believing, In the homeland all is well. Card of Thanks  -- We wish to thank the friends and relatives, also the minister Rev. P. O.
