"The children of John (the eldest son of Philip KOONTZ) and Delilah (ENGLAND) COONTZ were:
    1. Samuel Adam, born April 10, 1821, married Sarah STALNAKER.
    2. William W. 'Bill,' born 1823, married Lucinda RAMSEY, born in 1825, eldest daughter of John C. and Margaret (DIGMAN) RAMSEY. William was killed by Hud RAMSEY during the early years of the Civil War. Family tradition has it that William, whose son was serving with the Union Army and was killed in the Civil War, argued with William W. Hudson 'Hud' RAMSEY, a Democrat and southern sympathizer, and the argument led to bloodshed. Hud was the son of James and Mary RAMSEY and a first cousin of Bill's wife, Lucinda.
    3. Henry, born 1823, first married Sarah Ann RAMSEY, the eldest daughter of James and Mary RAMSEY. Sarah Ann died and Henry married Hanna (BONNER) THORNHILL, a widow, November 11, 1869.

John and Delilah (ENGLAND) COONTZ apparently separated about 1876 and Delilah moved in with her daughter Elizabeth and her husband, John Morgan RAMSEY. John gave 90 acres on Mill Creek near Huttonsville to his daughter and son-in-law, Minerva and John HILL, on the condition that they take care of him and provide him with a riding horse. This situation fell apart and the HILLs returned the land. John then deeded the land on Mill Creek to Nancy and George GIBSON. After his wife died on February 8, 1880, John moved to Barbour County to John Morgan RAMSEY's home and spent the last year of his life there. He died in 1881. His will is dated August 21, 1881."
