ObituariesFrank BARNHOUSE, son of Ellen and James Barnhouse, was born January 8, 1885, in Randalia. He passsed away at the Good Samaritan Home in West Union on May 29 at the age of 72 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Julia Boyer of Brainard; Mrs. Kate McCollum of Chipley, Fla.; and (Anna) Mrs. Tom Boyer of Turlock, Calif.; and two brothers, John, of Clenmont, and Clint, of Post Falls, Idaho; also many neices and nephews and a host of friends. He spent most of his life in Fayette county. Funeral services were held Friday, May 31, at the Muehlethaler funeral home in Elgin, Mr. L.H. Brandt of Garnavillo in charge. Interment was made at the Pleasant Grove cemetery. Casket bearers were Marshall helms, Willis Lyons, Poger Reeder, Ronald Bantz, Andy Grimes and Clem Meyers. Submitted by Rex Franklin.] Hazel Marie (BARNHOUSE) GROVE, 90, of Guthrie Center died of a heart ailment Wednesday at home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, with burial in Union Cemetery. Mrs. Grove, a homemaker, was born near Menlo and lived in Guthrie Center most of her life. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Surviving are six sons, Delbert of Adair, Lawrence, Jerry and Dale, all of Guthrie Center, Gerry of Conrad, and Arthur of Washington state; 10 daughters, Marie Grove of Phoenix, Ariz., Gladys Rasmussen of Paramount, Calif., Bethene Phillips of Guthrie Center, Beverly Bowman of Des Moines, Beulah Andersen of Loveland, Colo., Patricia McCool of Mount Vernon, Janice Rutherford of Ankeny, Evelyn Pohl of Panora, Esther Bohlender of Ames and Marguerite Pickle of Washington state; two brothers, Thomas BARNHOUSE of Casey and Vernon BARNHOUSE of Dexter; three sisters, Grace Jackson of Sacramento, Calif., Edith BARNHOUSE of Casey and Ferne Dickson of Fontanelle; 39 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren. Irene (BARNHOUSE) PORTER, 96, of Oskaloosa died of a heart ailment Wednesday at Mahaska County Hospital there. Private family services will be held Monday, and burial will be at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Mrs. Porter was a lifelong Oskaloosa resident and a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul Congregational-United Church of Christ in Oskaloosa and chapter IO of P.E.O. Survivors include a son, John of Oskaloosa; two daughters, Mary Sunstrum of Oskaloosa and Martha Ingels of Nisswa, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Bates Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to her church. (Iowa. The Des Moines Register, August 21, 1993, page 5.) John BARNHOUSE. Funeral services for John Barnhouse were held Wednesday, July 12, at the Muehlethaler Feuneral Home. He died Suday, July 9, at the home of his son in Marion. Mr. Barnhouse was born in Union Township, Fayette County, to James and Ellen Hawk Barnhouse October 16, 1901. He was raised near Brainard and attended the rural schools of Union Township. He worked several years for Fayettte County and for the town of Clemont until his retirement in 1963. He was a memeber of the Brainard Baptist Church. His hobbies were gardening, flowers and cooking. He was married in 1934 to Lila Gruver at Elgin. To this union five children were born, Mary (Mrs. Charles Sandeen) of Ogden, Wanda (Mrs. Kenneth Flatland), Burr Oak, Lew, Grand Valley, Colo.,Fred, Marion, and John, at home. He had eight grandchidren. Preceding hime in death were five brothers, and two sisters & three half-brothers and one half-sister. Survivors include one bother, Clint, Post Falls, Idaho, & two sisters. Kate McCullum, Jacksonville, Fla., and Julia Boyer, Elgin. Pallbearers were Norris Capper, Levi Molokken, Wayne Shipton, Leo Woods, Floyd Bergeson and Merle Alderson. Card of Thanks - The recent bereavement which has visited our home has brought to us a greater appreciation of our friends. Such kindnesses and neighborly thoughtfulness can never be forgotten. ailment Friday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at
Stuart-Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, of which she was a member, with burial at
South Oak Grove Cemetery. Mrs. BARNHOUSE, a retired teacher, was born in Sac City
and lived in Dexter more than 50 years. She was a member of the Retired Teachers
Association. Survivors include her husband, Vernon BARNHOUSE; two
sons, Tim BARNHOUSE of Iowa City and Joel BARNHOUSE of
Redfield; two daughters, Cynthia Spasic of West Des Moines and Julie Sharp of Clive; her
stepmother, Mildred Traeder of Storm Lake; and 10 grandchildren. Friends may call
after 9 a.m. today at Link Funeral Home in Stuart, where the family will be present from 7
to 8 p.m. (Iowa. The Des Moines Register, March 13, 1995, page 5.) Robert S. BARNHOUSE, Sr., 67, of Oskaloosa died of a heart ailment Friday at Pleasant Park Estates there. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with burial at Forest Cemetery there. Mr. BARNHOUSE was born in Oskaloosa and lived there all his life. He was a partner in Barnhouse Music Publishing Co. in Oskaloosa and a member of St. Paul Congregational-United Church of Christ, the Elks, Elmhurst Country Club, Southeast Iowa Musicians Union, Windjammers International and Do-Gooders International. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Barbara Rogers of Oskaloosa; two sons, Robert BARNHOUSE, Jr. of Oskaloosa and William BARNHOUSE of Charlotte, N.C.; his mother, Irene BARNHOUSE, a brother, Charles BARNHOUSE III, and a sister, Dianne Campbell, all of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
